  The development of any country is being judged on the basis of pace of urbanization. With the rapid pace of urbanization and Smart City Projects, round the corner in our country, the disposal of Solid waste and Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) are the major concern. It is estimated that India generates about 133760 tonnes of MSW per day. At the global level, about 1.3 billion metric tonnes of MSW is generated annually, which is expected to rise to about 2.2 billion metric tonnes by 2025. The improper disposal of MSW creates problems to public health and environment. Due to rise in the cost of landfill management, it is becoming extremely difficult to manage such a vast quantity of waste effectively and economically. In this scenario, the shredded and compacted waste is easier and cheaper to transport for land-filling. Also, separating out materials from the solid waste that can be reclaimed and recycled can increase the productivity of landfill and generate revenue as a means to decrease the processing and disposal cost of the solid waste management.
